Promoting Sustainable Development
- A total number of 23 Wolong projects were committed by the HKSAR Government. They can be divided into two major categories: Conservation and Research Development (11 projects); Infrastructure and Community Facilities (12 projects)
- Sichuan and Hong Kong jointly appointed the Hong Kong Ocean Park as the "Honorary Technical Advisor" for Wolong Reconstruction
- Formed a "Hong Kong Construction Sector 5.12 Reconstruction Joint Conference" to pool the strength of professionals within the Government and the industry to provide prompt and effective support to the affected areas in terms of funding, materials, equipment and expertise
- Invited seven well-known architects from the Mainland and Hong Kong to form the "Architectural Expert Team" to provide professional advice for the architectural design of Wolong's two flagship projects of The China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda
- Seismic fortification technologies in buildings: seismic isolators for energy transfer were installed in the foundations of buildings to protect the building structure, equipment and safety of staff working inside. The two veterinary hospitals at the Giant Panda Bases are equipped with seismic isolation technology to withstand high-intensity earthquakes and meet China's national construction standards
- Green buildings technologies: The basic principle is to minimize the consumption of resources in the construction life cycle, including land, energy, water resources, materials, indoor air quality and operation ,etc. The two Giant Panda Bases have adopted a variety of green building technologies, including roof greening and automatic irrigation systems. The Wolong reconstruction work is well recognized, both the Giant Panda Bases at Shenshuping in Wolong and Dujiangyan have been awarded the highest three-star rating by the China Green Building Label system
- Invited experts from different fields including planning, construction, ecological conservation and commercial operation to form the "Wolong Nature Reserve Sustainable Development Expert Team" and "Wolong Nature Reserve Eco-tourism Development Expert Team" to provide professional advice for Wolong's sustainable development and eco-tourism development respectively.
- Assist Wolong to formulate a set of sustainable development strategies
- Jointly organized two workshops with the Forestry Department of Sichuan Province, invited experts of planning, construction, ecological conservation and commercial operation from both mainland and Hong Kong to participate and provide advice for the future direction of sustainable development in Wolong
- In collaboration with Hong Kong Ocean Park and the Sichuan Provincial Forestry Department, the Development Bureau has signed the "Sichuan-Hong Kong Wolong Post-Reconstruction Collaboration Agreement". Taking advantages of the experience gained through Wolong Reconstruction, a series of cooperation projects have been launched to facilitate the development of Wolong Nature Reserve into a world-class conservation base of biodiversity and to reveal a harmonious development of man and nature to the world
